Privacy Policy
Effective August 9, 2026
StayOn is a menu bar utility for the Mac. The short version: StayOn collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no servers operated by the developer. The long version follows, and it is not much longer.
What StayOn stores, and where
StayOn keeps its settings — which toggles are on, and the name of the Wi-Fi network you last used — in your Mac's standard app preferences, on your Mac. This information never leaves your device and is never transmitted to anyone.
What the developer receives
Nothing. StayOn contains no analytics, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party code. The developer cannot see your settings, your networks, when you use the app, or that you use it at all. If you email support, the developer receives your email — that is the complete list.
Location permission
macOS requires location access before any app may read the name of the Wi-Fi network you're connected to. That is the only reason StayOn asks. StayOn never requests your location, never sees coordinates, and stores nothing but the network name — locally, as described above. If you decline, StayOn works normally; it simply can't show your network's name.
Network connections StayOn makes
- Connectivity check — while "Keep Network Connected" is on, StayOn requests a tiny page from Apple's standard connectivity endpoint (
captive.apple.com) about every 30 seconds to confirm your connection is really working. It is the same check macOS itself performs. The request carries no personal data and no identifiers.
StayOn makes no other network connections.
Notifications
Connection alerts are generated entirely on your Mac using the system notification service. Nothing about them is sent anywhere.
Children
StayOn does not knowingly collect information from anyone, children included — it does not collect information at all.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will appear at this address with a new effective date. Given what the policy says, changes seem unlikely.
